Join David Metcalf (aka Dayak Dave) on this unique cultural tour, which includes visiting four Dayak longhouses and allows us to meet and explore the culture of the Dayak Taman Kapuas, Dayak Tamambaloh and Dayak Iban. We are hosted and greeted by three different Dayak welcoming ceremonies and spend three nights in a traditional long house. The Dayak Iban people have a beautifully preserved forest area in the Sungai Utik Upstream and we will spend one night in a comfortable cabin in the forest.
Fly from Pontianak to Putussibau. We take a rest at Putussibau’s Hotel and we visit Lunsa Hilir Long House and by special arrangement we are welcomed by the Dayak Taman Kapuas leader. In the evening we enjoy a beautiful traditional dinner presented by the Dayak Taman Kapuas.
Overnight in Putussibau Hotel
We visit Banua Tengah Long House after breakfast and receive a welcoming and blessing by Adat leader. After a traditional lunch with the Dayak Tamambaloh we then journey to the very beautiful Danau Sentarum National Park. We will visit the Sungai Pelaik Long House. Hosted dinner with Dayak traditional food in evening.
Overnight in Pulau Burung’s Homestay (must bring Sleeping Bag)
Wake up and enjoy sunrise at Lake Burung (Pulau Burung). Have breakfast at the lake. Swimming (and jumping from a high point if you are so inclined) in the purist lake water you will ever see. Back to Lanjak town. Lunch at Lanjak. Journey to Sungai Utik traditional community. Welcome and blessing by Adat Dayak Iban. Meet the villagers who live in a longhouse (318 people in one house). Observe their weaving and basket making and cultural aspects of their lives. A presentation will be made on their customs and ways. In the afternoon we enjoy swimming in the crystal clear waters of Utik River (Sungai Utik). In the evening we enjoy a hosted dinner and dance performance including a special Gendang Maioh music performance. Evening story telling.
Overnight in Sungai Utik Long House
After breakfast we head upstream and enjoy lunch in the forest. Forest activities include traditional fishing with the locals, soft trekking option, swimming in the clear forest river and dinner in the evening listening to the sounds of the forest. We spend the night in a comfortable cabin upstream.
Overnight in Forest Cabin in Sungai Utik’s Upstream Homestay
After breakfast we enjoy the Adat Forest and come back to Sungai Utik Village, oobserve weaving and handicraft and then look for the hornbills. Free and easy in afternoon and a wonderful hosted dinner tonight with specially prepared local Dayak food.
Overnight in Sungai Utik Long House
After breakfast we have free and easy time. Shopping time for unique crafts. Transfer to Putussibau and flight back to Pontianak.

He opened Taksu Photo Gallery in Ubud, Bali, in 2015 and uses the power of photography to educate and encourage positive social change.
David leads photography tours to Bali and Java, the USA, Myanmar, India and other destinations. He is involved in many projects in Kalimantan supporting Dayak culture and the environment.
